EXPLODING KITTENS........

My luck, the first card I drew was a bomb.
It was all over, just like that --  BOOM!
I am better at Canasta, but refuse to play it,
for the obvious reasons---
-no taco-cat
-no rubbing the belly of a pig-a-corn
-no all seeing goat wizard to ask
(I can go on, but I'm out of the game)

RING CARSON......

Spring comes early to England.
After padding our hoofs in the
gardens we were quickly out of
our daisy-roots and relaxing in
the library, merry as grigs,
when she entered.   "I seem to
have misplaced my lorgnettes,"
she stated, "and I simply cannot
go to that opera without them."
Not going to the opera tonight
sounded good to us.
"Let's have a wet," she added.

CHIC........

"Delicious," she stated, "but you can't have any."
"Ah, please" I asked, "just one high heel, please?"
"Definitely not a high heel," she replied.
"Maybe just a pocketbook?" I countered.
"No," came the reply, as she popped it into her mouth.
"SUGARPOVA knows candy, and these are all for me."

CHEEKY........

"Really sweet," she said as she handed me the package.
"Sort of like gummy bears, just more cute," she added.
"You mean cuter?" I started to reply.......
"No," she stated, "more cute is better than cuter."
Never interrupt a SUGARPOVA moment, I quietly thought to myself.

FREE JOHN BATES.......

John Bates, valet for Lord Grantham of Downton Abbey,
was convicted of murdering his wife with rat poison.
He was framed and is innocent. While his death sentence
has been commuted, he has now been sentenced to life
in prison. We urge British authorities to re-open the
case, find the real murderer and free Mr. Bates so that
he can move on with his story line.

STAY on the TRAIL......

"But there's no snow yet, none at all," she stated.
"That's why these signs go out now," I said, and added,
"It will be too late when that first snow starts to fall."
"Doesn't the arrow's direction confuse some people," she asked.
"Only the dumb ones who shouldn't be there," I replied.

Beatrice's Hat.....

"Poster motivation never worked for me," she started.
"This one's all about that hat.   The taupe one.  Beatrice's," I added.
"What color is taupe anyway?" she asked.
"It's kind of like tan, only greener," I said.
"No, silly, it's a european mole," she stated.
"Like 'Taupe d'europe' or 'Talpa europaea'," she confirmed.

BRRR BLUR.....

"It's really cold outside" she said.
"And it's going to get colder," I added.
"Too cold to string holiday lights" she asked.
"Never too cold for that," I replied.
"I thought I had this great idea, but then it
was gone, in a flash...just gone" I said.
"What was that you said," she asked.
Too late, I had already forgotten.

Shhhhh Happens.....

"Did you just shush me?" she asked.
I knew then I had crossed the line.
Time to turn and run, I thought.
Run, and run fast.  Yet I didn't move.
"Yes, I did," I replied.
"Don't you ever shush me. Never." she said,
as her hand swung towards my face.  Smack!
And it hurt.

FULL METAL FROG..........

Her face was aglow with that look of disbelief.
I insisted, "I'm sure it moved, it must have."
She said nothing.
"If you take your eyes off it, it moves", I said.
"And I mean fast, like quantum locked fast."
"Like in the blink of an eye," she smiled.
I replied, "Faster than that, I think"
We blinked, and the frog was gone.

The SILENT H..........

Ellie sat on the other side of the kitchen table, her arms crossed tightly.
I began again, "Ell, there are many words with silent H's.  Let me give you
an example.   Your name, for instance.   Those times when you're angry,
nasty-kitty like, people refer to you as ......"    I didn't finish the sentence.
She had risen out of her seat and now her right hand was grabbing the chair's
back and lifting it up with the obvious intent to toss it over the table towards me.
But I was already in motion, out through the doorway, yelling that other well-known
silent H word, "elp, elp, elp, elp ...."

SNOWLINE......

"No," she said, "no further mention of snow."
"I'm not listening," she continued. "If it has the S-word,
I just don't want to hear it, not when Spring's here."
"But this is about choices, confusing choices," I countered,
"And how to decide the best course of action."
"Heh," she was quick to respond, "If it has snow in it,
then the best choice is simply the opposite direction."

HAWKIN'.......

"That can't be right, it just can't be," she stated.
"But you just said it, you said RIGHT, and it is right," I replied.
"The hawk lands on a tree-branch, the first head turn is
always to the right, it just is," I explained.
"No," she said, "It has to be a 50-50 shot, right or left."
"No," I countered, "Up here, in the northern hemisphere,
the first turn is always to the right."
But she didn't hear me, she was walking away too quickly,
walking to the right, 'hawkin' as people say.

Dog Gone It........

"I can't find her anywhere" she said.
"I've looked and looked, and she's gone," she added.
"Maybe she's out in the car," I said.
"Oh don't be silly," she said, "She can't open the door."
"Not without the keys," I said."

Bankrupt.......

"It's not gold, but maybe silver?" she asked.
"Not even silver.  Possibly just quartz," I replied.
"It's got to be worth something," she insisted.
"No," I responded,  "It's not even worth enough
to pay attention, when that attention itself
costs a lot of pretty pennies."

No Wake Zone.......

"Quiet, please, " I said.    "She's still sleeping."
"All she does is sleep," she replied.
"That's not true," I said.   "All those other times, she's just napping."
"Like a power nap?" she asked.
"Exactly," I said.   "She needs her strength to really sleep."

LEAVE A NOTE......

"What were you doing in the forest?" she asked.
"Oh, just leaving a note," I replied.
"A note in the woods? " she questioned.
And she followed that with, "Was it a big red note, by chance?"
"As a matter of fact, it was big and red," I said.
Seems she got my message.

LAPIS LAZULI TREE

"No," she said, "it does not exist."
"Yes it does," I countered. "I've seen the blue leaves."
I tried to explain, that strange science stuff about the
gemstones in the soill, the tree roots taking up the
blue color and producing those blue leaves.
But she was insistent.
I showed her the picture.
"You just photo-shopped that!" she cried.
"No I didn't," I said. "It's a real Lapis Lazuli Tree!!"

At the 9th Hole......

"Pine trees do not eat golf balls," she said.
I didn't want to argue, so I moved on.
"Sand is alive," I said, "That's how it works against you."
She just looked off to the side and replied,
"It's just an expensive way of playing marbles, anyway."

PASTURE BEDTIME.....

"How long can we stay?" she asked.
"Maybe 'till the cows home," I suggested.
"When is that exactly?" she queried.
"Oh, certainly well past your bedtime," I responded.
She looked out over the field and the questions stopped.
